Yet another thread about my upcoming TL and mod project, discussed in detail here.

So then, who would rule Kingdom of Lithuania? My initial bet would be someone from the Catholic kingdoms of the German Empire, but definitively not Mindaugas II who was never approved by the German authorities in OTL. Perhaps Friedrich Christian von Saxen?

Other points I'd like to discuss are the relations of this new state and Kingdom of Poland - would they cooperate or remain hostile to one another? The question of ethnicity is really central here - someone made a comparison to a scenario where Welsh nationalists would somehow create an independent Wales and declare that that one could be either Welsh or English, but not both, without giving any room to maintain a British identity instead of picking one of the two. Here's an informative article about the subject: http://vilnews.com/?p=14238

Quote: "The great majority of Lithuanians and Poles were convinced that all decisions about belonging to one or the other nationality could and should be based on objective historical, social, and political considerations. Different choices were unacceptable, indeed they were treasonable. Thus any Lithuanian Pole was considered a traitor of his country -- Lithuania, while, according to the view from the other side, any Lithuanian who asserted his nationality was condemned as a traitor to the Polish fatherland, that, of course, included the entire Lithuania and its history. Obviously such attitudes on both sides allowed no room for any compromises."

So, what would happen in the postwar decades? Can the Germans keep a lid over this kettle, or will it boil over? Can a fitting compromise be reached?
