This is likely an impossible pod to try to make a timeline for and is really more a joke post but whatever.

in 1781 the war of Independence has been won thus ending the first US civil war. But instead of a republic like in OTL the US forms an Constitutional Monarchy.

How likely is such a timeline and how does this effect US history moving forward?

For George Washington to do this, he would have to have been someone other than the George Washington that we know and love. And if was someone else, he wouldn't have had the personal qualities that allowed him to win the Revolution in the first place.

Even setting that aside, the idea of a constitutional monarchy was never considered by any of the major Founding Fathers (excepting perhaps Alexander Hamilton) and would have been rabidly opposed by Sam Adams, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, and pretty much all the others. The people themselves would not have stood for it, as the town hall resolutions and resolves in the lead-up to the Declaration of Independence and during the ratification debate clearly show.

In short, if this idea was ever vocalized, whoever was doing the talking would probably be pulled down off the stage, then tarred and feathered.

That was why I said it was more a joke post. I was fairly sure it couldn't have happened. But was posted as more a thought experiment than anything. Had such a thing happened what would that do to US history. That was what I was going for with this post.

A what if kind of thing.
