Surprisingly, this has never (to my knowledge) been brought up before on this forum:

In 1088, less than a year after acceding to the throne, most of the leading barons of England rebelled against William II, in favor of his (then) more popular brother, Robert Curthose. In OTL, Robert was slow to act, allowing William to time to regroup and either defeat or buy off the barons, dashing Robert's chances. So, WI Robert had acted swiftly and landed in England? His position was strong at that time and much of the nobility would probably have thrown in their lot with him.

Assuming he manages to defeat his brother, what happens next? Obviously the butterflies are going to be immense, but what are the foreseeable effects of this? What would the rule of King Robert I of England have been like? Would he still have taken the Cross in 1096? I assume William II would have either been defeated and, if not killed in battle or lucky enough to flee to the Continent, captured and imprisoned--but what about OTL Henry I and his role in all this?
