In my Stillborn Empire timeline, I will be adding a Hungarian monarch soon. Who do you think it’ll be?
A) So Maria Theresa here is accepted by the Hungarians as queen, while Austria is under the Wittelsbachs, but in 1772 due to some problems following the ATL partition of Poland by Bavaria-Bohemia, The Duchy of Poland (a successor state to Poland, made by the Prussians after the Saxon king of Poland finally bowed down to them), and Prussia, with Bavaria-Bohemia getting Galicia, leading to a war known as the Great European War, in which the Habsburgs are replaced as rulers of Hungary. No Maria Theresa? I thought she was accepted by the Hungarians as Queen. Is it different in your TL?
A French Prince seems a possibility but this would make France the absolute power in Europe. Which the British won't like. Imagine a France-Spain-Hungary alliance against any continental coalition led by Britain?
In the twilight years of Josef II's reign/early French Revolution there was talk of getting the future grand duke of Weimar as king. The opinion was that he was (great-)nephew of the Prussian king, cousin to the king of England and a few other important people, so he could probably gear up Hungary.
Um...why is Poland being weakened here? If the Saxon king finally "bowed" to Prussia, the Sejm would likely do to him what they had to his father in the 1710s when the Swedes invaded (i.e. depose him) before they accepted those term @Jan Olbracht @krieger @Fehérvári
Besides, anything that threatens Russian interest in Poland-Lithuania is an act of war. Bowing to Prussia is like that. Catherine II was hardly pro-Prussian as Peter III so she won't shy out of war.
So who would they replace him with?If the Saxon king finally "bowed" to Prussia, the Sejm would likely do to him what they had to his father in the 1710s when the Swedes invaded (i.e. depose him) before they accepted those term
Wells, it's not totally up to Sejm and even whole mass of Polish nobility who would replace him with. PLC in XVIIIth century was the Russian sphere of influence and every king had (in practice, not in theory) to be accepted by a Tsar. However, if said bowing happened before 1733, the guy which would be elected would be Stanisław Leszczyński, former king of Poland but he won't be accepted by Russians, so they'd replace him with... well, if Saxon king would be that stupid than Russians would have to choose from Polish upper nobility, perhaps prince August Alexander Czartoryski would take the throne. If whole thing happened after 1733, Saxon king would be just replaced by Czartoryski. If Czartoryski would be seen as a too indepednet, Emanuel Braganca, younger son of John V of Portugal could be placed on throne by Russians (it was proposed IOTL inne Treaty of Black Eagles)So who would they replace him with?
