I am not talking about the 1938 period but the 1919 talks in France. I have little doubt that the Slovak story is not the total truth but I do believe that what came out was much less than what they expected. No doubt the Slovak leadership seriously undermined the Czech govt in 1938 and contributed to the French and British not backing the Czech's aganist Hitler's plan to attack.
Again, in 1919 the federation was agreed upon by all sides. The politicos simply reneged on their earlier promises in 1921, for understandeable causes and with understandeable results. For chrissakes Štefánik was a member of Czechoslovak delegetion in Paris and he was pretty much the most prominent Slovak at the time...
Further, Slovakia broke from Czechoslovakia only in 1939 on eve of German invasion...
