King Henry VIII dissolves monasteries differently

As an alternative to dissolving the monasteries, could Henry have transferred ownership of the monastic lands/properties to the Crown but let these religious communities still function as before except that they be forbidden to recruit new members? So these communities still die off, but more naturally and gradually. This approach may prevent the Pilgrimage of Grace, right?

why would he do that though? he dissolved them because he needed the money from selling them off to be country houses for the rich and powerful to pay for much-needed defensive fortifications for the south coast. also he justified his act by having.the monastic orders proved corrupt and wickedly sinful. if he doesn't dissolve the orders he will get a protestant rebellion instead. not to mention that the pilgrimage of grace was not about the monasteries per se - they were simply the last straw. the pilgrimage was aimed at the entire introduction of Protestantism. at best, this delays a rebellion.

so, not really, no
