When Wladyslaw IV Vasa died in 1648, the royal election split into two camps - the so-called Peace Party (which favored the election of Jan Kazimierz) and the War Party (which favored the election of his younger brother Karol Ferdynand Vasa, duke of Oppeln). Jan won and was crowned as Jan II and was the last of the Vasa line. What if Karol had been elected instead? How might this have affected Polish history?
