Khmer Rouge | Long Term Effects/Goals?

That's something I've never been clear about. Did the Khmer Rouge really want no more technological development, ie. the society just remains in a state of rudimentary agrarianism forever?

Or did they want technological developemt to start all over again, from Year Zero, free of outside influence(sorta like a fucked-up, real-world Alternate History game)?

Their official emblem did not exactly eschew the symbols of technological modernity. Well, modern by the standards of the mid-70s.

I think he only wanted the most rudimentary of infrastructure and industry. The main point was to go back to that place in time, which was the cause for all the diabollic bs.

Yeah, that's what I've usually heard. But it does make the symbolism on their emblem kind of odd. Maybe they wanted just enough industrialization to keep the rice-based economy sustainable.

I guess, deluded as he was, Pol Pot must've realised all the ploughs and sickles had to come from somewhere.

I know most Communist Regime have been extremely bloody and violent but for some reason the Khmer Rouge has had a uniquely chilling aura about it.

Everything about it was horrifically twisted in terms of its ideals and application.

I mean Year 0 is madness!

They did kill 25% of their own people, making them proportionally the worst mass murderers in history (to put that in perspective to achieve that same ratio Stalin would have had to kill over 42 million people, Mao 138 million people, and Hitler 22 million people just in Germany alone). They also emptied out the cities and enslaved almost literally the whole population. It's not hard to see why they are so horrifying.
