Khalistan Terrorism: ISIS of the 80s?

Could Khalistan terrorists end up in the 1980s becoming like ISIS is today? Were the Khalistani groups organized enough to not only commit terror attacks in the subcontinent, but in North America and Europe?

I suppose the bigger question is... why would they be attacking the Americans and Europeans? Also, where would they be getting the funding, given the Sikh international community is relatively small and condensed, unlike Islamic groups which could count on rich international patrons.

Well, they did do this, and also:

In 1971, the Khalistan proponent Jagjit Singh Chauhan travelled to the United States. He placed an advertisement in The New York Times proclaiming the formation of Khalistan and was able to collect millions of dollars from the Sikh diaspora.[12]

I'd say that the Muslim Brotherhood or Iran would serve as better '80s IS analogues than the Khalistanis.
