There's this guy by the name of Daryl Davis, he's a musician and activist who has actually led over 100 people to leave the Ku Klux Klan. He was born in 1958 so he'd still exist, and the part of me ends up wondering what he'd be up to ITTL. Part of me imagines he'd be invited to the White House during Jesse Jackson's administration based on that achievement alone.

Slightly more advanced, probably close to OTL technology in 2030. I think TTL's current political culture is similar to OTL's in some ways but different in other ways.
Leahy served as State’s Attorney of Vermont’s Chittendon County during the 1970s and as the state Attorney General from 1983 to 1991 and again from 1999 to 2019. He ran for higher office numerous times but never won.

IOTL, Bill Nye "applied four times, unsuccessfully, for NASA's astronaut training program" (wiki). ITTL, he gets in and becomes one of the more "visible" astronauts due to becoming the "face" of NASA's PR campaigns in the late 1980s, where he used his comedic skills to promote NASA through what he calls "edutainment." The success of these promotional shorts and PR campaigns leads to Nye making cameos and short appearances in some comedic movies and TV shows. His growing media presence, though, leads to him not being taken very seriously by NASA higher ups, and while he gets to travel to the I.S.S. in 1992, he is always passed over for major missions. When he's not even considered for the Mars mission, he leaves NASA to host his own TV show focused on what Car Sagan (whose own career was pretty similar to OTL's here) called "pure science." This alternate Bill Nye The Science Guy lasts from 1997 to 2009. After an initially tense few years between Nye and NASA, the 2 make amends to pair up and cover the Marstronaut Mission in 2003. Since then, Nye has focused primarily on science advocacy.
I'm not sure what happens to Tyson ITTL. His father Cyril deGrasse Tyson (1927–2016), was a human resource commissioner for the mayor of NYC IOTL, so maybe here, New York City mayor, so if he doesn't become fascinated with science at the age of 9 (1967 or so), maybe he gets into city politics? He also was captain of his High School wrestling team IOTL, maybe he becomes an athlete? I dunno. my guess is his life is pretty similar to OTL's here. Thoughts?

If Rogan still is born (in 1967, roughly 35 years after the POD, about 15 years after the POD begins affecting things nationally and about 7 years after the POD begins influencing things worldwide) maybe he becomes a kickboxing or martial arts professional like he originally intended and now hosts either a sports-centered podcast-like series or covers sports for a TV channel/network or something...

What a great man. That sounds like it'd make sense, since said activism began in the 1980s IOTL I could see it happening in a similar manner here. Maybe he's a bit more prominent and successful ITTL, too. Let's say the invite to the White House happens in the summer of 2004, to highlight the administration choosing "love and hope over fear and hate" in the face of Senator Goetz winning the GOP nominee for President that year!

Curious about your decision @gap80 not to cover the OTL intellectual dark web since you covered Jordan Peterson in one article (although it was fairly brief). I'll say that anybody born after January 1, 1980 ITTL doesn't exist or exists under one different parent and thus aren't the same. Doesn't mean there won't be an intellectual dark web in the KFP universe, I don't see the US being pinko enough not to have one.

Something to note, while there are references to a genre of music exclusive to the timeline (mask punk, I believe it was called), I can actually buy that punk music would likely develop in a similar manner. For example I could buy Green Day coming up with something similar to American Idiot during the presidency of Larry Dinger.

@gap80 What happened to Phyllis Schlafly? She campaigned on opposition to the ERA IOTL and was instrumental in derailing its ratification (yes, she was very hypocritical). What happened to her ITTL since her efforts to prevent its ratification failed? Was she disgraced and thus sidelined by the Religious Right?
Speaking of the ERA, do buildings in ATL 2022 have restrooms segregated by gender? It's something that the New Right IOTL continues to warn will go away if the ERA is for some reason ratified. One opinion that's largely mainstream is that ratifying the ERA wouldn't do much other than extend rights to non-citizens and allow females to register for selective service (The courts have consistently ruled that same-sex discrimination violates the 14th amendment).

I found out recently, one of The Colonel's nephews, Anthony Sanders, is in the restaurant business himself, as the current owner of a chain of chicken restaurants called Lee's Famous Chicken, which was founded by his father, Lee Cummings. Anthony himself is also a Kentucky Colonel fittingly enough. While I don't know if the Lee's Famous Chicken restaurants would exist, I do have to wonder if Anthony would end up becoming a member of the board for Finger-lickin’ Good, Inc. At the very least, I'd imagine him appearing in some commercials.

I already covered how the pandemic impacted 2000s culture (for example, near the end of Chapter 98). I also mentioned Spiderman; I went with Igeo654's idea of River Pheonix in a Burton-directed Spiderman film. Sam Raimi is still an action movie director, and Tobey Maguire is still a famous, award-winning actor.

On a side note @gap80, how is 2000s culture and society impacted due to the SARS pandemic ITTL? Were millions upon millions of people who were able to go outside IOTL ITTL prevented from going outside due to lockdowns and quarantines? Did the early 2000s end up resembling OTL’s early 2020s atleast in a way?

It'd be different, not more insane. American politics in the KFP universe are a different charlie-foxtrot, but nevertheless a better functioning one that I like. Instead of having a party of christian white nationalism and a party suffering from an identity crisis, you have a party of "small government, big freedom" and a party of Jesse Jackson liberalism in the KFP universe.

I'm just saying, he's covering a 10-year span, and in the 10-year span he'd be covering, there was an assassination, the last remnant of the Cold War collapsed, we elected the first black president (who funnily enough here would be a guy he mentioned in the video I posted), and the pandemic. The 10-year span he'd be covering would be insane.
The Ioacca assassination happened in 1995, and the Soviets collapsed in 1984 or 1985. The 2000-2010 era is more peaceful than our world, with no 9/11 and multi-trillion-dollar quagmires to suck up the treasury. The only exception is the SARS 2002 pandemic and maybe the Congo War.
Edit: The US spent over 4 trillion in Iraq and Afghanistan IOTL, where did that 4 trillion go in the KFP universe?
