Kennedy vs. Bush

JFK Jr. and Dodd would never be put on the same ticket.
They both hail from the Northeast and that would not give the Democrats any sort of geographic advantage whatsoever. (Unlike putting Clinton and Gore on the same ticket even though Arkansas and Tennessee are neighbors.)
So you want a Kennedy running against a Bush ?

No need for JFK Jr. to survive his plane crash or butterfly it away.

RFK Jr. and Blanche Lincoln in 2008 vs Jeb Bush and Sarah Palin
Also you would not need to butterfly Dubya being popular.
Jeb Bush would probably have been a better nominee than McCain.
At least he would win Florida handily. A Bush on the ticket appeals to the base of The Republican Party. Why ? I have no idea.
I chalk it up to lack of thinking myself.
That's right. Kennedy-Lincoln vs Bush-Palin.
Kennedy-Lincoln sure would look good on a lawn sign.
A close second would be Kennedy-Reagan, as in RFK Jr. and Ron Reagan Jr.
Kennedy-Reagan vs Bush-Palin. And now let me conduct a preemptive manuever for any potential detractors. Yes I know RFK Jr. has had drug problems. So has Senator Obama apparently and he is the Democratic nominee. I think if RFK Jr. had entered the Democratic primaries in 2008 as a citizen-politician, never having held office previously, he would changed the entire dynamic of the Democratic race for the nomination. I believe RFK Jr. might have won California for reasons which should be obvious to anyone who posts to an Alternate History Forum. He also would have won a good share of delegates in NY.

I think there would have to be some major POD's in RFK Jr's life. The 1st POD being June 5th 1968 in which his father narrowly avoids assasination, 2nd, RFK Jr. gets elected to Congress, as well as haveing experience in serving in state or local elected offices of either Assemblyman, State Senator or Mayor. 3rd, he merely dabbles in weed and coke, or if he does go for the hard-core stuff, he is never caught and convicted. With those PODs take care of RFK Jr should be a viable presidential candidate. Finally, Senator Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas would have made a great choice for VP to Obama. Just Irony alone would been a good choice: a female senator who was born, and raised and is a lifelong resident of Arkansas. As well as having the most conservative Democratic seantor on the same ticket with the radical liberal Democratic senator. Priceless. And she would have been a far better choice than Joe Biden.

You don't want a VP who disagrees with you too much. The debates would have been horrible.

McCain would have eaten RFK Jr alive ?

Well, that too. But I was specifically referring to the Obama/Lincoln ticket you suggested. Although Biden won, primarily because Palin did horribly, if there had been major policy disagreements between P and VP, it would have been an upset.

Mismatched running mates were in vogue before the days of fact checkers and 24 hour television. CNN did an in-depth analysis of Palin and Biden last night, for example. Running mates nowadays need to agree on most issues and will preferably have a geographic advantage,.
