So after FDR's death that would pretty much be the end of the Roosevelt's as a political family. What would it take to keep the Roosevelts (the Hyde Park or Oyster Bay clan) in politics
He died from heart failure. I don't disagree but Teddy Jr. (actually the III but whatever) needs to not be wounded in WWI. Those injuries plagued him for the rest of his life.
Might as well save Quentin too for good measure.
TOO easy. Have T.R.'s son (Teddy, Jr.) survive Utah Beach. He could even still be awarded the Medal of Honor for good measure. If he survives the remainder of the war, he'd return home a hero without a doubt and would be well set up for a political future considering he had already served in public office as a member of the NY State Assembly, Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Governor of Puerto Rico and Governor General of the Philippines, positions of which he all held in between his WW1 and WW2 service (he was reserves and called up for active duty in both wars.) The fact that he was an officer in both wars, a MoH recipient, T.R.'s son and experience in politics would pretty much guarantee this guy to serve in Washington. Possibly even at the highest level. Mind you, however, by the time the war's over and he's all set up for office (maybe a Presidential run, I would assume after Truman/Eisenhower, as he had a good relationship with Ike and I doubt he would have ran against him regardless of his popularity) he'd be nearing 65+.
Ahhh, I wasn't aware of that. Most of my knowledge concerning Teddy, Jr.'s service during WW2 was from "The Longest Day" which portrays him actually dying on Utah Beach, I think? I didn't know he died from heart failure while in France. Interesting.
Well, seeing how TR Jr. died of a heart attack; making him still get the Medal of Honor shouldn't be too hard (the gaining of the medal wasn't directly related to his death).
Roosevelt vs Kennedy would be amazing. Theodore Roosevelt Jr.(R) vs John F. Kennedy (R)Like I said, wasn't too aware of this. I always thought "The Longest Day" had a part where Henry Fonda (who portrayed TR, Jr.) got shot and dies on Utah Beach? Maybe not.
EDIT: A Roosevelt vs. Kennedy presidential race would be extremely interesting. The groaning from the American public would largely complain of aristocracy. I suppose the power of political families in Washington would probably be viewed in a much more disfavored light than it is currently if a situation like that ever developed. Especially if Bush, Sr. and Bush, Jr. still win their respective presidencies (assuming that this is not butterflied away.)
Is it possible any of Franklin's children could go into politics on the Dem side.
I meant winning like the Presidency
