Kaiserreich: Legacy of the Weltkrieg

The Second American Civil War in its fundamental components is too ingrained in Kaiserreich's narrative to be changed, it's needed for Japan and South America to start messing things up and it's just better for it to not be changed, really, because changing one of the most iconic and popular events of the setting would just be self-harm on the mod.

I'm intrigued and also have some apprehension about the Russian rework. Russia has always been pretty special in the mod as it's one of the most open-ended countries that can go down all possible political paths and used to be the first thing developed for the mod even before it was a "Germany wins WW1" scenario. I'm hoping that the devs manage to do what they did with the China rework or what they showed off in the upcoming India rework where the iconic parts of Kaiserreich are retained and vastly improved upon instead of getting rid of for the sake of "realism".

Also, I'm hoping that Tsar Wrangel and Transamur remain things in the mod because Russian Napoleon is a cool concept and so is the idea of Japan holding their influence on Vladivostok and all the geopolitical effects it could have, even if the latter has always been kinda hard to make work smoothly in gameplay-terms.

Hmmm. Maybe the lore can start with a more moderate labor politician running as the left-wing candidate at first, and then he gets assassinated in the lead-up to the civil war which leads to his movement getting radicalized and Reed taking over? That way we still get the CSA, but with a slightly more plausible background, and more options for the post-civil war, with the moderate trade unions under the socdem ideology having their own faction.

I'm not the biggest fan of nerfing the socialists so much.
If anything, it's a buff. If a moderate like Thomas is their candidate and wins, their power base will go far beyond the steel belt, and the civil war will be mostly about dealing with one, maybe two rebel groups, then introducing much needed social democratic reforms without replacing American liberal democracy for a syndicalist model, which in my opinion are very flawed even when it's democratic.

It seems like a buff at the expense of it being recognizably Third Internationale in any way, which is in my opinion maybe not the best choice.

Why would socialist America even want to be part of the Internationale and their wars? It's been mostly isolationist for decades and people wouldn't be in the mood for foreign adventures after all the shit they went through. It's probably not a good fit for Kaiserreich as it is right though, you have a point there.

My plan back when we were first starting a USA rework back in 2015 was to have FDR be the clear united R-D nominee only to die/be assassinated in June 1936, leaving a fractured conservative establishment with moderates who believed in reform flocking to people who actually promised change (the SPA and Long's American Union Party). Eventually people decided that KR was a little too full of OTL figures getting assassinated.

Funny you should mention it, a few of @Kingfish 's ideas are pretty similar to some of the ones in UWTS.
  • Long is more aligned with Western Progressives and his VP will be Wheeler. The AUG (new name for AUS) will also be more centered in the great plains + Louisiana and Arkansas, though Long can also get the rest of the south under certain circumstances.
  • SPA is more moderate, with Reed being a RadSoc and trying to keep the Sewer Socialists, IWW-Syndicalists, and others united under the SPA banner.
  • A new conservative faction can appear in the South, either as a "Moderate" MarLib-AutDem tag or a "Hardline" AutDem-NatPop tag. The former spawns if Conservative politicians decide the current administration is "pseudo-socialist" and abandon it, the latter if the Klan, George Van Horn Moseley, and a few radical Dixiecrats get together and decide to have a fun time.
  • The elected President (with there also being a few more options) massively influences how the war breaks out:
    • Garner faces both Long and Reed uprising but is usually able to keep hold of the South.
    • George Norris and William Borah will always get the backing of Long.
    • Landon, Henry Breckenridge, and Cordell Hull can't negotiate with anyone but can usually count on more support from the great powers.
    • Olson will have to decide between compromising with Long or Reed, or potentially mess things up and face uprisings from both.
    • Reed faces uprisings from Long and the Southern faction.
    • Long gets Louisiana, midwest, central south, chunks of the west coast, and can potentially hold on to the deep south. Socialists are guaranteed to rise though.
The biggest difference is Mac is guaranteed to get his own tag that spawns in the Virginia and San Diego areas as he tries to take over the government as the spark that starts the civil war. However, if the President is a moderate, he "just" tries to pressure them into giving him power as opposed to outright couping at first. The President can either give in or resist, with the latter causing the President to remain in control of the USA's tag in the west and Mac's tag to be severely weakened as it's much less legitimate.

I read some of the stuff posted on the subreddit, it looks pretty solid, especially the election events and congress mechanics!

Does the German-American Bund exist in KR? I guess without the toxic influence of Hitler and Nazis, the organization would more like the Kaiser Bill fan club.

I was going to say that without US involvement in WW1/WK1, there would not have been the same anti-German hysteria in the country like in OTL, meaning that German-language schools, newspapers, etc, would not have been closed down, a resulting in KR America having much more German cultural influence that can be turned into political support....

But two things came to mind:

(1) With the United States falling into endless economic depression and political unrest for over a decade after the end of WK1, while Germany being on the rise at the same time, I wonder if a large number of German-Americans would have immigrated back to their ancestral homeland, as things were simply better in 'the old country'. Effectively doing the same thing that the OTL anti-German hysteria did in terms of removing German cultural influence from American society.

(2) Even if the lack of US involvement in WW1/WK1 butterflied OTL's anti-German hysteria away, due to the German Empire's support for Long's AUS once the Second Civil War breaks out, if anyone besides the AUS wins the Civil War, I am sure that there would be plenty of backlash from the public against Germany.

For the leader Fritz Kuhn specifically, Kuhn only moved to the USA in the late 20s so I'm not even sure he would be in the USA in the KRTL. Some other leader could potentially create an alt-GAB, but IDK how many of those potential leaders would be in the same boat as Kuhn on the immigration front.

Russia is officially the "main villain" of Kaiserreich. The rework has Savinkov in power from the start, effectively making Russia the 1:1 copy of Nazi Germany.

Which honestly makes sense(and tbh doesn’t detract from my enjoyment of playing them that much because I usually go Savinkov as Russia anyway)
