He called Long as "The superman" and really liked him, Smith was for Long what a teenaged girl is to her favourite band.

Long was at the brink of ditching him when he was shot. I imagine a scenario where Long fires Smith and then Smith murders him and comitt suicide in sequence.

Smith has always been fascinating to me for just how nuts he was.

I'm not sure weather Smith was always crazy and merely had an outlet through Long or Long's death spurned him into further madness, but after Long's death he lost it. He started what he called a "christian nationalist crusade" and claimed it had way more members then it actually did, claimed he was close friends with Charles Lindbergh after speaking with him once, briefly joined Pelley's silver shirts, started a real-life America First Party in 1944 and ran for president, and by the end of his life was denying the holocaust and planned on making a Jesus-centered theme park.

There are two tropes that describe post Long Smith, the first is "sanity slippage" and the second is "from bad to worse". He could be a burgundian system leader in TNO america.

I'm gonna need a source here, because I can't find any information about this.

In his biography of Long, Professor T. Harry Williams stresses Smith's idolization of his hero. He accepts the testimony of Seymour Weiss, who told him: "I have seen him--I have gone in a room where Huey was asleep and Gerald would be asleep on the floor just so that he could be close to Huey." Smith dismissed this description as untrue. [--] Smith denied heatedly that he ever placed himself in fetal position at Huey's feet, and vigorously disputed the accuracy of Williams' account. --Biography magazine, Vol. 2 No. 4 (1979), pp. 316-317

Considering how Smith was a notorious liar and snake, as well as his obsession with Long and general insanity, I'm personally inclined very much to believe it.

after Long's death he lost it.

I found this video in one of the (many) Huey Long youtube channels

It is funny because the only comment on that video is "Long was going to fire Smith in 1935!! " and yeah, having him to continue claiming to be a longist gave Long adversaries the PERFECT excuse to attack his legacy, as Smith was insane

So, apparently, there will be something worse than Mosley in the UoB after the rework. Any idea what/who that could be?

Where is the news on this? I'd assume somebody insane like Unity Mitford.
I was going to object to this example, but after going to Unity Mitford's Wikipedia page, I encountered this quote from her sister's biographer:
Jan Dalley said:
"I think the desire to shock was very important, it was the way that she made herself special. When she discovered Nazism and discovered that it was a fantastic opportunity to shock everybody in England she’d discovered the best tease of all."
So yeah, her aligning with the socialists in Britain and later becoming a Totalist could possibly make sense.
