Ka-Ching: A Donald Trump Timeline
Donald Trump was born in New York in 1946 and had built himself a large business empire. In the 1990's he was more popular than ever and he finished building the Trump Tower in 2001. In 2003 Trump started the hit TV show the Apprentice and his popularity continued to grow. "The Donald" had always had political ambitions. Trump had already wanted to run in 2000 as the Reform candidate, socially liberal and a business conservative but ultimately chose not to run. Trump himself said " I go for the person, not necessarily the party." registering as a Democrat in 2001 and then to a Republican. This time though Donald Trump was considering running for real, There was a weak field of Republican Candidates and Trump had alot of name recognition unlike candidates like Tim Pawlenty. In April 2011 Donald Trump was leading the pack of Republican candidates by 9 points. This showed that the American people wanted a candidate who understood the economy and understood business. Trump was now a serious candidate and even got 31 votes in a Georgia Straw Poll.
