June 30th 1908 - The Fireball of St. Petersburg

So many Tunguska Impact event PODs... Hey, I really like the idea of some huge explosion ripping through a world capital pre-Great War. Someone should seriously do a timeline for the London Fireball scenario.

This is a little more realistic. The Tunguska event hit a latitude which was shared very roughly by St. Petersburg. I think its realistic to say that the difference of half of a second or two could have forced a fireball to explode above the north of St. Petersburg, Imperial Russia, in June 30th 1908.

Whadya think? Early revolution? Factions rip Russia apart? Or do they merely continue with life, move the capital or some such, and do worse when 1914 rolls around because of the loss to the economy and life?

Personally, I feel that it falling on London would be extremely cool, if slightly unrealistic (well, just realistic enough to not be classified as ASB). Religious fanaticism, factionalization, the (partial) collapse of an empire and the world economy (partially as well), new Powers taking the stead of the British Empire, possible war over the matter. Seriously cool.
