I had an idea for an Alternate History world but didn't know everything about the times and didn't know all the butterflies or if it was even realistic enough. So I decided that instead of a timeline I would have it in story/novel form. Also the POD is during the OregonTerritory crisis and the bigger POD is in the Civil War (its based on a book series) but all the stroy is after 1900 which why it is in this forum. Hopefully its good and told realisticly enough. But I after seeing Black Op footage I wasn't sure if I wanted to write about the WWI analouge first or the WWII one or the Vietnam one. So I decided for practice I would write bits and pieces from different eras and then start at the WWI plotline.

Also there is a certain asian racial word Im not sure if its ok. But the US and Japan havent finished their fight like OTL so theres still alot of hate and I wanted it to sound realistic and having watched the Pacific recently I felt I needed to add it But if people want me to change it I will immeditaly. Because if you know me you'll understand how much I hate racists. Also please Constructive criticism. Tell me whats good and whats bad. but please at least tell be how to improve.

anyways starting off.

The first thing that Robert Sledge smelled as he jumped off the Helicopter was the smell of gasoline mixed with the smell of the jungle. He looked around Marines were moving around in their dark green uniforms while some worked on battered Jeeps. He spotted a lone M110* Eisenhower Heavy Keg (Tank) flanked by two M64** Patton Kegs on each side.
Some of them had their flak vests zipped up all the way, others didn't. Sledge didn't want to take chances and new he was suppose to be an example having come out of Annapolis. He has his Silver Cup*** strapped on his head and his flak vest zipped up. Though he hadn't yet received his weapon. He had been trained to fire the M6 Assault Rifle, or Cowboy Rifles**** as he had the Vets of Thailand refer to them. He saw a Black Sergeant and a Hispanic Corporal walk up to him.
“You Lieutenant Sledge?” The Sergeant asked. Sledge nodded.
“Captain Blake as me to show you to the barracks. And to give you a quick run down. I'm Sergeant Joshua Freeman, this here is Edgardo Juarez. But we all call him Grande.” Sledge looked at “Grande”, the name didn't fit. He looked to be 5 foot 6 inches if that.
“Were are you from?” Sergeant Freeman asked.
“Mobile Alabama, you?”
“I was born is Baton Rouge, Louisiana. But my dad got a new job and we had to move to Vancouver, Jefferson when I was ten. Grande here is from a small town in Rio Grande.”
“Really?” Asked Sledge surprised. Grande nodded at him.
“My father was a member of the Blue Banditos back in the Third Global War.”
“Interesting,” replied Sledge, “my father was a Marine as well. Fought in the retaking of Midway and was at D-Day by Gibraltar.”
“My father was in Dallas during the whole battle.” Freeman said adding in. "Was sent over the Trinity as Azteca bombers staffed their transport. Then was part of the rear guard as they fell back over the same river. Hell even had a run in with Richard Winters.”
“The same Winters that took and held Winter's House.”
“Yes sir.” Replied the Sergeant as he got into the driver's seat of a Jeep. “Hop in sir we got a short drive to the barracks. Grande you got the ears and eyes. Watch for mortars, you know Jackie***** loves to toss us a few ever once in a while as a gift. They're bound to give us a few to celebrate President King's inauguration.”
“Isn't he being inaugurated in only a few minuets?” Sledge asked. Grande looked at his clock.
“He's having it at 900 hours and D.C is eleven hours behind us so lets see that would mean it would be 2000 hours here and its currently 7:56 and 2000 is eight.”
“So four minuets.” Sledge said, it wasn't a question it was a statement.
“Yes sir.” Freeman replied. “Wish the radios they put on these things could get reception from the east coast. The first black President in the history of America and I'm not going to hear it. Aw hell this radio took a bullet a couple of days ago. Wouldn't work anyways.”
“You know how I was reading that alternate history book the other day?” Grande said looking out as they passed a munitions area.
“I've already stated that “A Man on a High Throne” is as unrealistic as hell. Mexico taking over all of the Southwestern United States. Even if we didn't take over 100,000 of their troops prisoner at Dallas, even if we lost there we still would of won eventually. Now maybe is France won they would of annexed Belgium- thankfully we'll never know.”
“Anyways sarge I was thinking. Imagine if the Liverpool/Gettysburg incident never occurred. What if reconstruction didn't completely work and blacks had to wait longer for civil right. Imagine the possibilities. Martin Luther king Jr. could have been a civil rights activist and not JFK's VP. Imagine if the first Black President wasn't elected till sometime in the early 21century. By then he might not even be descended from Slaves. His father might have been Kenyan or something.

“Sounds far fetched.” Sledge replied in an emotionless voice. And with that the conversation was dropped. Wanting to hear more about the area Sledge decided to strike up another conversation. “You hear about that German Aircraft Carrier. What is it called? The Holtzendorff, yeah the Holtzendorff.
“Yes sir we have.” Freeman said replying. “It's part of a small German Naval Task Force sent to help us out. Doubt it will do much if anything. Fly a few patrols at most, but our F-8 Poltergeists can handle any Mitsubishi Jet the Japs(Japanese not sure if I should use that term or not) can put in the sky. Germany is just to far from this shithole country. Their sphere of influence doesn't overlap with Japan like us.
“Not to mention their attention the German public is more concerned with those terrorists out of Champagne and Franche-Comte than a few Japs in Thailand.” Grande added.
“I thought we were fighting a bunch of North Thais that wanted to install a king or emperor or someone after the old puppet government fell. We all know where they're getting their supplies from no doubt, but to spend soldiers lives down here in secret?”
“Well maybe they are just North Thais, but if you ask me sir, if it talks like a Jap, looks like a jap, acts like a Jap then it probably is a Jap.”
“Especially if it smells like a dead Jap.” Grande said with a slight smirk on his face. Joshua just grinned.
“Yeah Japanese want their puppet back and if they can get the Thailand Peninsula back from the Dutch- then hell they'll be willing to start a war I bet.” Freeman said driving around a hole in the road.
“I don't know how long things can go on like this.” Sledge said looking out of the Jeep. “But the Japanese aren't completely insane. They don't want to start a war just yet. Especially when the Russians have a million or more soldiers on the border of Mongolia and the areas that Japan got in the far east at the end of the last war. Japan wants their puppet back. But not as much as the Ruskies want Vladivostok back. Not even close.”
“Russia got pretty damn close to exchanging fissions****** with those guys back in 64'. But JFK made it clear what would happen. Damn Hirohito. We wouldn't even of had to go through that if he didn't put those missiles in western Mongolia. But the whole thing blew over. Still looking back maybe we should of finished it then. Sure Perm and Omsk probably would have been vaporized but the Japanese couldn't do much damage to us then. Probably would of hit Singapore and Manila******* but-.
“But now they claim that their missiles can reach the west coast.” Sledge said finishing Freeman's thought.
“Yeah but I guess back then Alexei didn't feel like having another Russian capital get fizzed********. He wanted those fissions out of range, and you don't mess with the German Czar*********. Constitutional Monarchy or not.

“Oorah.” Grande said. “Aw shit you hear that-” Sledge had heard a series of thuds off in the distance but hadn't reacted.
“Aw Shit those aren't just mortars!” Sergeant Joshua Freeman yelled slamming on the brakes. “Those guns sounded big.” He and Grande jumped out of the Jeep.
“Get to the ditch Lieutenant!” Grande yelled, Sledge heard a few thuds this time he heard the Thaiguer's********** guns fire a second volley. He didn't need to be told twice. He jumped out of the back of the jeep and ran for the deeply dug ditch on the side of the road. He was only a few feet away when the first few shells hit the grounds. The earth shook beneath him and he stumbled as something ping of the back of his silver cup helmet. He hit the ground and laid there stunned for a few seconds. He felt a pair of hands grab his arms and drag him into the ditch. He landed on his back and saw Sergeant Freeman land back into the ditch and laid down on the ground with his hands over his head. Sledge only faintly realized that his helmet had rolled of somewhere when he landed.
The shelling went on for ten minuets or so before letting up. Robert Sledge opened his eyes and looked around. Their was dust in the air but he and the two other Marines were unhurt. He stood up and looked over the ditch and were shells had pocketed the road and other areas. The screams of the wounded could also be heard and a fire was raging at one of the munition tents.
“My God.” He whispered.
“Those guns were a helluva lot bigger than usual!” Freeman said standing up a cursing.
“And a bombardment of that strength doesn't usually last that long.” Grande said looking around. “Lets move while we can hopefully that was just to celebrate King's inauguration and we'll be able to help the wounded.” With that the trio lifted themselves out of the ditch.
“Oh by the way Lieutenant,” Freeman said turning to Sledge and handing him his helmet,” Welcome to Thailand.” Sledge looked at the helmet and turning it around in his hands spotted a piece of shrapnel fused with the helmet.
