Joseph P. Kennedy Jr isn't killed in WWII, returns home a decorated war hero

What if Joseph P. Kennedy Jr had not been killed in WWII? What if his last mission had been a success and he had returned home a decorated war hero?

Would Joe Jr have gone into politics? Would he have become President of the US? Joe Kennedy Sr had always said his son Joe would be the first Roman Catholic elected President of the United States. What kind of President would Joe Jr have made? What then of the political careers of his brothers JFK, RFK, and Teddy?

Of course Joe Jr. would've been elected President--that was Old Joe's plan all along.

He would've been a corrupt little pig, just like his daddy and brothers (well, actually, I suppose Bobby wasn't a ciorrupt little pig).

I suppose Joe Jr. would have receieved all the family support the Jack got. Before he died Joe Jr. was the family golden boy. When he died the family shifted to working toward getting Jack elected. When he died the family shifted to Bobby. Then on to Ted....

Well, duh...

He ran against Thomas Dewey in '52, discrediting him due to the various scandals surrounding the Luzon War, and then rules as a manipulative Democrat demagogue for three consecutive terms. He is perhaps best remembered for supporting the construction of a complex nuclear power plant system, a plant in every state. When the civil unrest of the 1960s began, however, he strayed into harms way during a national tour, and was assassinated by Charles Whitman at the University of Texas campas on January 3rd, 1962. He was succeeded by his vice-president, Charles LaFollette, Jr.
