John of Gaunt has a son by Constance of Castile

A slightly random question, but I noticed that John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster married Constance of Castile, daughter of Peter I of Castile, and they had two kids: Catherine born in 1372, who would later go on to marry Henry III of Castile, and John born in 1374 who died in 1375. Now John waged a war with Henry for the throne of Castile. Eventually he ended his pretensions and agreed to marry his daughter to Henry. If his son John survives, would he continue with his pretensions or give up as he did otl? Regardless, what title could John the younger be given as an English noble, and who could he potentially marry?

With a son and heir, John Sr. will want his son to succeed his mother, the rightful heir to the Spanish thrown, becoming King John II

If they fail to gain the Spanish throne, English titles, he would hold could be:
- Earl of Richmond from his father
- Duke of Aquitaine from his father, closest English controlled land to Spain

Alright very interesting. For them to succeed in this venture, I imagine they'll need more local support, which having a male heir could well give them. Though, if he were born in England he's likely to be viewed as a foreigner I imagine, which might hamper him.

That is why ITTL John should name the son Peter after Constance's father or Alfonso after her grandfather. This would make him seem more appeasing to the spanish noblemen.
John of Gaunt will need to bring the young boy to Spain, for the supports to pay homage.

Also very true. So, shall we go with Alfonso born 1374, I imagine this might add some weight to his cause if he brings the kid on campaign when the boy is old enough. And might well keep him out of England for some time.

Hmm would john look to betroth his son to a local Castilian girl or to someone from abroad who could bring more men?
