John Lennon survives getting shot, Princess Diana survives car crash.

And Martin Luther King is shot, but not killed, he awakes from his coma in 1994. What is the world like with these three key people alive?

Am given to believe you're comparing Martin Luther Kind with Princess Di? John Lennon with King? Lennon with Di?

For me the three are at a scale of relevance, with King and Di at opposite ends, and Lennon somewhere in the middle. I simply cannot see the Tabloid Princess having anywhere near the impact of someone like Dr.King. Lennon amounted to an amusing cultural footnote... That's about it really.

So: King carries on his work and his equal rights work continues, reaching a momentum, which sooner or later receives a backlash sometime in the early '80's, as black-US culture degrades from the highs of Motown et al, to the violent, mysogynistic and homophobic mess we have today. Its a shame, because he has (some kind of) chance of becoming the first black US President.

Lennon rapidly fades into obscurity, even faster than McCartney, as he really loses himself to the drugs, relying more and more on former glories. In the end no-one can stand Lennon and McCartney and their frequent rows (as opposed to just McCartney) and George Harrison is lauded as the 'nice quiet one'. There's a Beatles reunion at some point, which becomes a farce like the Rolling Stones' continual touring.

The upshot: Lennon shouts down the Gallagher brothers = No Oasis = no Britpop :D

Princess Di: She gets old, she fades into obscurity, only to take swipes at Charles and Camilla, the tabloids stop caring.

I suppose the moral of all this story is: Martyr figures aren't really that influential when they live. Not that Di's a martyr to anything but Al Fayed's ambitions, and Lennon to the perils of 'celebrity' 'culture'.

The End.

No Britpop? Nooooo!

John Lennon become a drug addicted hoobo living in Paris and somehow butterfly out the death of Diana. MLK become a proffersional hitman and kills Diana a few days later on the order of mr Fayed who don't want his doughter to marry a christian. :p

I belive that one should only put one WI in each tread.

If I am not mistaken John Lennon more than less quit drugs at this point, at least the hard shit like heroin. Perhaps after he is shot he gets addicted to medical drugs such as morphine.

However Lennon's career wont fall as quickly as people have already suggested, he will be big in the 1980's but starting to fade by the early 1990's, but this also depends on Lennon. Does he become darker as a result of the near death experience? He could slip and slide right off the table by 1985 but gain a certain cult following amongst the darker elements of rock music.

Of course I found a better question to be, What if Yoko Ono exited the car first that day? Would Mark David Chapman shoot her, or will he still focus on Lennon? Its possible once he sees her he comes to the conclusion she is a bad influence on John and as long as they're together he will be under her spell.
