John II of Portugal has a daughter

WI John II Aviz and Eleanor of Viseu besides son Afonso has also daughter (Joanna, born in 1480)? Say death of Afonso is not butterflied away. So after death of his only son, John still have a daughter to inherit the throne. Propably alongside bethrotal of Afonso and Isabel of Castile, Joanna of Portugal would be promised to John of Asturia, only son of Catholic Monarchs, but death of Afonso would prevent that double Castilian-Portuguese marriage. John II was on bad terms with Ferdinand and Isabel and would not like their son to get his throne. So instead of trying to legitimize his bastard son, John II would be more concerned about his daughter's marriage. Would he let Joanna to marry Manuel of Viseu? He accepted him as heir IOTL so it seems likely. That way future monarchs of Portugal would be both John's female line
descendants and male line descendants of House of Aviz. Joanna would reach marriagable age before her father's death so John would have time to secure the match.

Well, John II disliked Manuel a lot. IOTL he only accepted him as his heir after making him pledge to give a bunch of high-sounding titles and orders to Jorge de Lencastre (king John's bastard son), in a way that would have essentially made him a second king, had Manuel fullfilled all of his promises.

Certainly, Manuel would be better than a Spaniard in the eyes of John II, but I wonder if there weren't any better candidates. Maybe a son of some noble friendly to the crown, or maybe a foreign prince who pledged to stay away from Portuguese poitics and serve solely as a consort.

So if John found another husband for his daughter, then Manuel would became potential danger. Would John eliminate him in such case?

What about Philipp, duke of Burgundy? Joana of Portugal is likely to make a much more tempting offer than a third born child of a relatively parvenu power on the European chessboard.

Of course, a POD in 1480 could see her snapped up for Richard of Shrewsbury or Edward of Middleham. They're far enough from the English throne once Edward V has kids that a PU between England and Portugal is unlikely.

Charles VIII is too young, though one of his Savoyard cousins may be considered (OTL Filiberto II or Carlo III)

Hmmm... So Edward IV does not die in 1483 and his younger son Richard marry heiress of Portugal in 1494/95? Yorkist Portugal seems interesting.

But surviving Yorkist England is bigger POD that daughter of John Aviz, so let's start with something more modest-Infante Afonso survives due to butterflies, then if Infante lives and have kids, marriage of his sister to the Prince of Asturias should not be any problem. She'd be the same age as Margaret of Austria. Then there is question whom would Margaret marry? Earlier match with Savoy?

Fairly likely. His titles and militairy orders are probably given to Jorge de Lencastre in this case, this should serve as a safeguard in case Joana's husband is to "misbehave".
