John Glenn as Bobby Kennedy’s VP in 1968

Assuming that Bobby Kennedy lives and somehow wins the nomination, is it plausible for Kennedy to choose John Glenn as his running mate?

Glenn certainly had star power but he was not a good public speaker, I think RFK would rather want him in the Senate than pick him as a VP. Also, Kennedy would desperately need to pick a Southerner in order to reunify the Democratic Party and have a national appeal. Governor Carl Sanders was an economic liberal and racial moderate, in addition to being close with the Kennedys. RFK would be more likely to choose someone like him than Glenn. Former North Carolina Governor Terry Sanford wouldn't be a bad choice either. According to JFK's Secretary, the President mulled replacing LBJ with Sanford in '64. So obviously he had some favor with the Kennedy Clan; five years later LBJ pushed HHH to choose him as VP in 1968. (Instead Humphrey choose Muskie, and we all know how that worked out for him). However by 1968 Sanford's connection with LBJ would probably be too much for RFK to stomach (Sanford had briefly served as Johnson's campaign manager during his abortive run in the early primaries), but winning over establishment delegates would be key to winning the nomination in the first place and offering the second spot to a Johnson man like Sanford would be a very shrewd move that Kennedy wasn't above making. (RFK had planned on offering McCarthy the position of SecState after the CA primary). Either one of these two would be excellent choices, but Sanders would have the best chance.
