John and Abigail Adams Never Marry

Although later in life John and Abigail Adams would prove to be one of the most famous and consequental couples of the Revolution, it may be disconcerting to the modern historian to realize that when they first met in 1759 neither really took an interest in the other. John's verdict in his diary on their first encounter was that he had "wasted an evening" and that the girls were " not fond, nor frank, not candid". He was also disgusted by her father who he apparently viewed as an attention whore.

So what if neither decided to pursue a romantic relationship and went their seperate ways? John frequently relied on his wife's advice in government and politics. How significant was Abigail's impact in history?

That Second Continental Congress, where old scores of a half decade prior were settled. Samuel Adams must've secretly harbored deep seated hatred for John's magisterial defense of those hated lobsterbacks.

Errnge

That could set up some butterflies if the extremists go that far. Might get a reaction against their excesses. [Although given the number of people murdered or otherwise abused by such groups during the period that may be being too optimistic:(.]

Alternatively possibly the troops come to his aid and shoot down the rioters. After all the basic result of the trial was that they were allowed to shoot to defend their own lives so that easily carries over into those of other law abiding citizens.;)

Well, isn't it likely that the Boston Massacre would be butterflied away or the circumstances surrounding it different?

John Adams meeting Abigail, as far as I know, no way affected the coming of the Boston Massacre. Maybe through random butterflies, there might be one or two different people present at it.

When John Adams volunteered to defend the British troops who opened fire at the Boston Massacre, OTL, there was a mob who came down to his house to lynch him. The only reason they didnt bust into his house and drag him out to be tarred, feathered, and probably hung as a traitor was because Abigail Adams came out with a meat cleaver and told them all to back the fuck up. Abigail Adams was in fact more badass than her husband

Without her to defend him, he would have been lynched.

I don't have my biography on Adams in front of me, but I seem to remember that he was debating between entering the ecclesiastic career or a legal one. I have no idea why, as he would probably have made an awful reverand but he was seriously considering it.

If I remember correctly, he asked Abigail for advice on the issue and she told him frankly that she thought he would make a better lawyer than clergyman.
