September 1, 1970 - The Soviet Union and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam conclude the Soviet-Vietnamese Treaty of Friendship, Alliance and Mutual Assistance. Unannounced is a secret 25 year lease allowing them to build a naval base at Cam Ranh Bay, which becomes a major base for the Soviet Pacific Fleet.
May 27, 1971 - First pieces of the Apollo Lunar Base arrive with Apollo 19.
August 3, 1971 - First permanent crew of three arrive at Apollo Lunar Base.
November 19, 1971 - US Launches the Apollo Station, a space station in orbit to be used as a waystation for the Apollo Base.
January 3, 1972 - Zvezda Moon Base receives first permanent crew. Two days later the remaining crew land, bringing the total to ten, including one woman. Three days later the Soviet Union announces the Zvezda Moon Base to the world.

January 21, 1977 - With Soviet assistance, People’s Republic of Iran begins mining Persian Gulf, cutting off oil shipments from Gulf nations.
February 1, 1977 - United States begins gasoline rationing.
February 2, 1977 - With Soviet permission and advisers, Iraqi forces cross into and occupy Kuwait.
March 18, 1977 - Street fighting in Tehran and other large Iranian cities as Muslim radicals rebel against communist government.

December 28, 1977- Forty three Soviet scientists at Zvezda Moon Base and Tsiolkovsky Observatory rebel against and kill the base commander and the lone political officer and announce to the world they are defecting in response to the atomic bombing of Birmingham and turn the base over to the American government.
January 3, 1978 - Kiev atom bombed.
March 9, 1978 - UK holds a general election resulting in Ron Hayward as Prime Minister.
April 1, 1978 - United Kingdom announces it has reached independent armistice agreement with USSR. Announces withdrawal from NATO. Expels US forces.
July 21, 1978 - South Korean forces formally surrender.
August 1978-April 1979 - “The Big Lull” - War continues without major actions. Sea battles and air battles continue.
September 1978-December 1978 - The Peace Congress - Political leaders from 23 nations, including Ron Hayward of the UK and a delegation of six US Senators lead by Edward Kennedy, meet with peace delegates from the USSR in an attempt to end the war. The meetings are not endorsed by the government of the United States.
May 1, 1980 - People’s Republic of China declares war on the USSR, PLA forces cross border into USSR. Vladivostok bombed.
May 4, 1980 - PRC invades Vietnam.
May 5, 1980 - US begins Operation Ice Quake, amphibious invasion and liberation of Greenland.
May 7, 1980 - US begins Operation Tower, amphibious invasion and liberation of Iceland.
May 15, 1980 - Republic of Ireland announces end to neutrality, declares war on USSR. Begins staging US forces.
