Jewish Aksum?

What if the kingdom_of_Aksum had adopted Judaism as its state religion instead of Christianity? How would this influence the neighbouring region, like for instance Arabia? In Yemen, in OTL, the Himyarite Kingdom adopted Judaism. Could a Jewish Aksum have given Judaism a boost in the region? Maybe one could even see the development of a united Arabia under Judaism, trying to reconquer the holy land?

Would be interesting if a Judaistic/Hebrew/Rabbinist culture could lead by Aksumites and Himyarites could inherit parts of East Africa of the Arabian penisnula Maybe they invite Serphadics to settle, too. Imagine, the Khazar Chanate joins up later, too.

Axum was very anti-Semitic, there is a reason why Gudit the Jewish-Pagan Queen laid waste to it, set the churches on fire and attempted to kill the entire royal family. She even married a Yemenite Jew who helped her with the task of wiping out the Christian presence of Axum.

If you get Gudit to succeed in destroying Axum her marriage already cements the bond across the Red Sea.

A good thing to read about is the Temple of Elephantine, it is the only temple to have ever existed out of Israel and was formed by Northern Israelite tribes who were basically mercenaries that went all the way to the Egyptian/Sudanese border they worshiped a two gendered personification of g-d and didn't know about Passover.

When they were destroyed they merely went west into the Simien mountains of Ethiopia forming the Agaw and Beta Israel and east through the desert forming Bani Israel that later settled Senegal.

West? You mean South surely. I don't know about this whole Israelite Tribes bit either. The Jews of Alexandria made off pretty well and likely had a hand in merchant traffic heading south. You will find Celtic Mercenary graffiti there though.

I thought Aksum was at least partly Jewish prior to the adoption of Christianity?

Eh, I feel it's Semitic paganism and hebraic-paganism, not Judaism in the way we imagine it

But regardless by the time of Christian adoption they quickly turned on the Jewish and Hebriac populations, that's the reason why Gudit went on this March to kill them all.

So archaeological evidence as well as evidence through their faith show that the Jew's of Elephantine Island were practicing something different than that of the southern tribes. They were still in communication through what's been recovered to the Elephantine Papyri but what I'm saying is not so fanciful as it sounds.

Also yeah it's not west, when I was typing I was thinking (north) west of the Simien Mountains.

Elephantine just south into Sudan goes along the Blue Nile and the stronghold of Beta Israel was Lake Tana and the Simien Mountains.

Interestingly enough the origin story of the hebriac-pagan Agaw speak of traveling in the same direction as Beta Israel and the Weyto a hippopotamus hunting population also based around Lake Tana are also believed to have come from Egypt as well.

I know it sounds crazy but then again most people have no clue a second temple existed, especially one in Africa.
