Jesus Had a Wife is More Widely Accepted

The earliest fanfic I know of is the Aeneid. Which predates that text.

I would go with the Hurrian tale of Humbaba/Huwawa, a ferocious monster from the Epic of Gilgamesh that may have been the prototype of the Gorgon in later Greek legend. In this story, written in a tablet dated to the 13th century BC, Huwawa is actually the 'hero' instead of Gilgamesh. That sounds like fanfiction to me!

And also very interesting! Do you happen to know where I could find the text (preferably in translation)?

Apparently the tablets containing the text are very fragmentary, but there is enough to deduce that Huwawa has a much more prominent and less adversarial role (although he still dies in the end) than in the "standard" version of the epic. The Hittite/Hurrian version in general has been adapted to fit their own mythology, in which Huwawa is identified with a local Hurrian nature spirit.

I looked for an online text without success. All I found were short references to the differing versions of the epic.
