Japanese Invasion of Korea Successful

If Yi Sun-sin dies sometime before the war, I think the Japanese would have a very good chance of being victorious. They lost largely because their supply lines were cut off by the far superior Korean navy. If Yi Sun-sin is dead, they will have lost much of this naval power (no turtle ship) the general ITTL would almost certainly be far less competent.

So if the Japanese manage to defeat the Koreans decisively, what would happen next?

Honestly the impression I've gotten from reading around this forum is that a successful invasion of Korea would eventually lead to the collapse of the Shogunate since they'd extend themselves way too far. It would be interesting though if, before they collapse, the samurai and daimyos have moved to Korea, and once the Shogun falls, a Japanese-like system remains in place in Korea, nominally vassals to the Emperor in Kyoto but really just as independent as the Daimyos in Japan (possibly having their very own Korean Shogun).

Neat, if anyone can come up with a TL for this, that'd be great. But I think a long with the guy you said dying I theorize 2 other things that go different.

1) The Portugese Captain who was staying in Japan at the time had 2 ships, the Shogun tried to pay them to attack the turtle ships of the Koreans. I think MAYBE with this they could have beaten back the hell hole supply train for Japan

2) You need to somehow make it so that instead of the idea of completely looting the countryside, the Samurai have to operate under the idea that it will soon be their land.

Interesting. I hadn't even thought of that.

I was thinking about this too, although if Admiral Yi is dead, there will be no turtle ships.

Any other thoughts?

I doubt the Japanese could actually conquer and rule Korea. They might devestate it yes but the combination of strong Korean resistence and Chinese intervention will probably cause the Japan to drop the war sooner or later.

Actually even with a supply line from hell they were able to beat back substantially larger forces quite effectively. The Korean's tactics were in theory good, but the technology of the time just wasn't up to it yet.

I was under the impression that the Korean resistance was quite weak and incompetent actually. The only part of their army that excelled was the navy. The Chinese though would still be a problem.

Actually in all likelihood the Chinese did more harm then help (long term) They pillaged the country side of their vassals and this helped encourage banditry.
