Japanese invasion of Australia

Just gonna throw this out there - Australia is the most urbanized nation in the world, as of 1999. Break that down to 1940s level, and it's still one of the leading urbanized nations, leaving around 40% of the populace in just 5 or 6 cities. You take out those cities, and Australia quickly becomes just nothing more than the Outback. Pretty unforgiving terrain that.

Those cities are nearly all concentrated in the SE Corner of the Continent. The furthest point from any potential invading force. So, that lengthens any lines of communications enormously, thereby exacerbating logistical problems of any potential attacking force. Such lengthy LOC are more easily interdicted. Submarines in particular would find it a happy hunting ground.

I think the real question is why you people haven't killed all these things with fire yet.

The land dwelling animals have evolved to deal with fire - largely by avoiding it and breeding very, very, fast. Fire of course will not effect the estuarine and sea dwelling animals overly much.
