Japanese Army Strategy For 1944

Below is a statement by Takushiro Hattori, Operations Chief for the Army General Staff, in March 1944. What do you think of the statement? Did anything strike you in particular? Did the Japanese Army pursue the only strategy available to them in 1944? Any other options or preparations that should have occurred?

"The defenses in the Marianas, our front line in the Central Pacific, are now impregnable. We call this the "Tojo Line". Thus, large numbers of ground forces are not required in the Ryukyu Islands. Even if the Marianas line were broken, though of course such a thing could never happen, a large number of airfields would be able to provide adequate defense. If seaborne supply lines to oil and other raw materials in the South Pacific were disrupted, the chain of airfields would make it possible to utilize gliders."

Hope this is interesting.:)
