Japan wins?

So basically, I've been reading some threads recently, and I've seen that some members have suggested that the only possible way Japan could win is with a POD before 1900.

So, the challenge is to make a POD before 1900 that eventually goes a long way to helping Japan win World War II. I made this thread out of pure curiosity, if you wanted to know.

All thoughts and opinions are accepted...

Er, your a bit new so I will just tell you this before the n0ob haters swarm.
A Pod before 1900 would most likely butterfly away the second world war, or at least have it happen in a manner that is totally unrecognizable and different to our's.
It's a nice idea though, for a good POD I would say the late 20's, make the depressionw worse strengthen Japan's hold over Asia something along those lines.

What exactly does "win WWII" mean, however? As in, what should Japan have accomplished by 1945?

We can answer that more easily.

What I mean is that Japan could be able to win something like World War II or at least a big war against an established power, like the U.S., after a POD before 1900

That would be...rather difficult.

Japan has almost zip for industrial era resources within the home islands.

well much like OTL but better diplomacy and just avoid war with the usa

and stay clear of china without a better plan

So what could they do other than conquest?

Trade.

Trade WHAT I don't know - you have to have something to produce to get in exchange.

Also, why do you want without conquest? Japan - at least hypothetically - could conquer Korea, for instance. Some stuff there.

This would give them a few more resources, but OTOH they'd have to hold down the population. So it wouldn't help them that much - unless they found a way to assimilate their conquests.

Like the Allies the Axis can't win the war with one power doing all that's required to win it. The Axis need at a bare minimum some vision of global strategy while they've still got something of an advantage. Asking for Japan, Italy, or Germany to win WWII on their own misses the entire point: coalitions win coalition wars, not the singular members. Germany is the USSR and USA both of the Axis, Japan the UK, Italy the Brazil.
