Japan wank

The basic premise is that Germany buys the Philippines from Spain in 1898. WW1 happens on schedule and the Japanese seize the Philippines before anyone else can get their hands on them. After the war the Philippines remain Japanese. Germany still loses of course and the Treaty of Versailles is imposed on them. Hitler still rises and all hell breaks out in 1939 as per OTL. Shit also hits the fan in the Pacific when Japan attacks in 1940-1942.

The Americans are far away as the Philippines are a Japanese possession so the Japanese don't attack. The chances of getting into a war with the US is virtually zilch anyway since no incidents can occur near the Philippines ITTL. I made a nice wanked map of this Japan. How would the world react to such a huge Japan? Will it be a super power for long? Would/could they still get into a war with America?

Feel free to play around with Europe as you wish. You may have the Nazi's still lose (which I found to give a more interesting world) or you can have them win.

I personally think that the USA would have been brought into the war against Germany anyway, with our without Japan attacking, and given Nazi Germany's close association with Japan OTL (and presumably in this TL too), the USA would eventually get into war with Japan.

Furthermore, Japan is still going to piss the USA and other Western powers off mightily by attacking China, and controlling the East Indies and Indochina would probably be too much to bear. In this TL, the whole of East Asia has been effectively cut off from access by the West, and these regions are just too valuable to the Allies to abandon them without a fight.

Well assuming Japan and Germany are at the very least loosely allies, the US would almost have to eventually get involved.

Without Pearl Harbor, give FDR another year and he'd probably get a declaration of war on Germany. It was building up to that anyways. Since Japan is having open season on Britian, it's only natural to assume that declaration of war would extend to them as well.

Germany would likely be the primary front, but when the atomic bomb comes out of the genie bottle in 1945, Japan's days as a major power are numbered.

I don't see why Japan WOULDN'T attack the US. It appears that everything that Japan attacked Pearl Harbor for is still in place:

-cutting off the oil supply to Japan
-desire to acquire and invade Hawaii

How does transferring the Phillipines to Japan change this?

This doesn't prevent the basic difference of opinion that made war between America and Japan almost inevitable - the Americans are embargoing Japan over Indonesia, which the Japanese regard as an act of war and the Americans don't. One useful tweak would be to have FDR resign after 2 terms and let Hull be President; Hull's a Japanaphile and would be happy to make an early and lenient peace with Japan if he could.

@SilverPhantom2: Now they can get to Indonesian oil without the risk of getting into some sort of incident with the Americans near the Philippines. I somehow doubt that the American people would want to fight for the Dutch East Indies and the Philippines. Same goes for congress. They can therefore conquer the whole of southeast Asia without having to worry about Americans sitting so awfully close to their supply lines.

the Americans are embargoing Japan over Indonesia,

No, they were embargoing Japan over China. If the Japanese conquer Indonesia without involving the Americans (which they now can) the problem should be eliminated.
