Japan Sitting Pretty

This one is pretty short and to the point . . . Even if I'm pretty damn sure that it requires an ASB level event to happen, given the mindset of the militarists.

Let's just say that, for whatever reason, they don't use things like Marco Polo Bridge to try to take all of China. That Japan doesn't decide it's their destiny to make all of Asia and the Pacific their bitch. Instead they're perfectly happy to sit on what they have already gained by the 30s. Pacific possessions, Formosa, Korea, and Manchuria.

How long can they keep what they already have? How does this impact the fighting between Chiang and Mao in China? Really just any speculation on the future developments for Asia by this forum's experts would be pretty cool to see.

It's probably not too ASB, but you might need a PoD before the 30s. Japan going in another direction should be entirely possible. The problems is of course that the Japanese industries need raw material Japan doesn't have and is expensive to import.

In order to make it work Japan needs to not build an enormous military machine like it did. Perhaps working on tech developments and trade might do the trick for them to gain resources.

Why or how on earth such a militaristic and fascist government would do that is beyond me. The way the Fascist system works is by letting the people focus on something, like war and expansionism. That way your economy can survive as it keps growing and growing. That requires resources and hostilities. Without those 2 their economy would collapse and there would be major poverty and crime.

Despite it's militarism and nationalism Japan was never really fascist.
