Japan joins in on the Spanish American war as an Ally of the U.S.

For whatever reason, Japan decides its a good time to jump on Spain while the U.S. is and issues a declaration of war against Spain along with the U.S.

The Japanese goal is to seize the Entire Marianas Chain (Guam included), the Marshalls, the Carolines, Wake Island as it is unoccupied at the time, the Palaus, and make the Philippines a puppet state.

Whether they actually accomplish that is another thing all together.

So how do you see this playing out?

I'm not sure of Japan's ability to conduct that sort of operation at this point, but I'm fairly sure the US wouldn't be impressed by the offer of an alliance. They thought the Spanish would be a pushover (even more than they actually were), and so the only impact of Japan joining in from their point of view would be to deprive them of territories in the pacific.

The Japanese aren't going to get a jump on Dewey and the Asiatic Squadron since he attacked Manila as soon he got word from Washington. Also Wake island is already a US possession by 1898. So those territories will remain American.

I don't think the US will look kindly upon Japanese intervention.

January 17, 1899 was when Wake Island was annexed by America.

The United States would reject any forms of aid since they thought the Spanish would be a fairly easy fight and would frown upon any intervention especially by Japan.
