Japan as a western colony - plausable or ASB

The only reason meiji means it can't happen is meiji was so late.
Have meiji happen a few decades earlier and its more likely than not.

Siam did not become a colony, because of mutual French/British collusion.
Just like Ethiopia. Problem with carving it up and feirce militant resistance might deter westerners. Except Siam and Ethiopia fell to Axis Powers. A lot of things would be different with no Axis Japan. And that goes without mentioning the 100 years before that.

Question: what happens with Taiwan and Korea?
The get colonized by a European power (Britain, France Germany, mostly, the USA, or swallowed up by China. They sure the hell weren't going to stay independant into the 20th century.

I don't know about that- Korea was starting a fair westernization campaign itself just as Japan started to swallow it up.
