James II marries Claudia Felicitas

So, this is something I've been pondering as of late.

Say James, Duke of York marries Claudia Felicitas of Austria in say 1674, thanks mainly to Margaret Theresa, EMperor Leopold's first wife still being alive, one assumes that any children the couple have born during the reign of Charles II would be raised Anglican, as per the tradition by this point.

When Charles dies, James ascends the throne, and assuming he continues down his otl path, but has say two or three sons who are Anglican, with Claudia, what happens? Do the Protestant upper class wait for James to die, and hedge their bets on his eldest son, or do they remove James in favour of a regency for his son?

And what happens if in this scenario, James and Claudia have two daughters, and then in 1686/87 a son is born to them? What do the upper class do then?

A lot depends on James's children and his wife's influence.
If James has Anglican sons then his rule is mostly tolerated.
If James has a Catholic son then his deposition is likely and it all depends on whether Parliament has control of his son to convert to Anglicanism or not. If not then as OTL until James dies and what his son does then.
If James has one of each with the elder Anglican then I suspect it depends on the elder son if deposition in his favour happens or not. The brother is likely later excluded from the succession.

Intriguing, I wonder, would Parliament have to force the older son's hand in the instance where James has one of each.

I do think that Claudia would raise her son an Anglican or allow him to convert, should James be removed from the throne alongside the family.

So, here's another thing I thought of for this:

James and Claudia marry in 1674/75, Margaret Theresa is still alive and perhaps has one more child.

James and Claudia's children:

Catherine Laura (b.1675/76)

Henrietta (b.1678)

Charles (b.1680) Debating whether Charles would be raised a Catholic or not once his father becomes King, and also whether he should live that long.

Anna Claudia (b.1682: d. 1684)

James Francis Edward Stuart (b.1687) if Charles is raised Catholic after his father becomes King, then James most defintely will be.

Louise Maria (b. 1689)
