James I stays in Scotland

Let's say that, for whatever reason, James VI decides to remain in Scotland in Edinburgh instead of moving to London. What would the consequences of this be, and how would this affect Anglo-Scottish relations?

A few quick thoughts:

-England is much richer and more populous than Scotland. Not to mention, that he probably wants to make sure to secure his new crown. He'd need an awfully strong reason to stay in Edinburgh. What that reason is will probably affect the outcome.

-Religion. Scots were Calvinist Presbyterians, while England was a hodgepodge, but officially Anglican. OTL the monarch has to balance the 2, but Charles I was famously very strongly supportive of the Laudians in the Anglican Church, helping trigger such conflicts as the Bishops' Wars and thus the English Civil War. A Charles who was raised in a more Presbyterian environment will probably have very different religious views.

-Parliament. The Stuarts' decision to rule from Edinburgh will probably not be viewed kindly by the English Parliament, which might exacerbate the tensions that OTL led to the English Civil War.
