James Francis Edward Stuart marriages options?

So, putting aside all the other headaches that would be there, let us say that the Jacobite rising of 1715 is successful, James Stuart is now James III, aged twenty seven/ twenty eight and unmarried. Who are possible marriage options for him?

If he wanted to marry a Catholic then the number of high profile candidates isn't great. From France he could perhaps marry one of the daughters of the Regent Orleans.

Yes. There's also be quite a few Catholics if you were willing to marry someone from one of the minor states. Re grand matches however, I think suitable Catholics were thin on the ground during this particular period.

This is true, Wilhemine Charlotte of Hesse Kassel sound like a good match?

Since the PoD is basically "Old Pretender has the brains" the Portuguese princess is a way to both have a Catholic match and to not alienate the domestic public (which would happen with say French match). The Princess would come with the dowry almost as big (monetary-wise) as her aunt, and unlike Queen Catherine the Infanta would be expected to be fertile, since her mother is from THE fertile family of 2nd half of XVII century Europe.
Win, win and win.

I agree. Francisca Josefa of Portugal would be a good choice - continuing an important alliance and hopefully bringing quite a bit of money into the country too. I don't think the age gap would be viewed as a problem - the more years she has to be fertile the better! Also Frederick, Prince of Wales (son of George II) was about 12 years older than his wife Augusta of Saxe Gotha Altenbourg who was only about 16 when she arrived in the UK so I don't think anyone would mind about Francisca's youth.

Oh I agree, so he'd marry her, in say around mid to late 1716, bringing with her a big dowry no doubt
