Jalal ad-Din Mingburnu

Apparently he was one of the few generals who ever won any victories over the Mongols in the early days of their conquests. Could he have retaken/held the Khwarezm Sultanate? Failing that, what about his attempt at an empire in exile?

What would have happened with his descendants?

Or is he just doomed?

The only real exploration of this seems to be in the old Chaos timeline, but I'm looking at a situation where the Mongols collapse after Ogedei (Batu and Guyuk sound like a civil war situation that could easily have happened had things gon worse), not never rise.

If he had been able to reassert control over (part of) Persia/Mesopotamia, it would've effectively forestalled a continental Khanate, with tremendous implications. While the irrigation systems in Western/Central Asia might still be destroyed in the course of the fighting, a Khanate confined to East Asia would have been more likely to (gradually) assimilate to Chinese/Confucian culture. So perhaps a more enduring Yuan dynasty?

If the Lashkar hadn't abandoned him over a damn white horse taken as booty of war, he could have maintained Afghanistan as a base of resistance till Western Iran could come to his aid.

Say instead, Jalal just gives the Lashkar Chieftain the white horse in return for his undying loyalty.

Not to mention any impacts on the Middle East. And if he's really lucky/skilled, he or his descendants might rebuild a mighty Persia.

So many ways his legacy could be more than a "huh, brave and unlucky guy, beat the Mongols a couple times though" figure.

Who did he (OTL) give it to? Or did he take it for himself?

Anything you can point to for more information on this or him/his struggles in general would be greatly appreciated.
