Intro: This is a timeline I have been working on for a while now, and I am interested to see what some people would think of it. The title tells you what it is about, and I hope you guys like it. I will try to post updates daily, depending on how people like it. So, here goes
POD: May 2nd, 1863. The Battle of Chancellorsville. Lt. Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson narrowly avoids death by friendly fire during the battle. As such, Jackson is on hand at the Battle of Gettysburg later in the year, and his command helps General Robert E. Lee defeat the Union Army. The Army of Northern Virginia manages to march on Philadelphia and ultimately encircle Washington, D.C.. Great Britain, surprised at the change of hands for the second time in the war, extends diplomatic recognition to the CSA, and Britain is quickly followed by France. The US is forced to recognize the Confederacy on threats of war from the European nations.
In July 1863, a conference is held at the Powell House in Philadelphia, with President Lincoln, Hannibal Hamlin, and General Grant representing the US, Judah P. Benjamin, General Jackson, and General Lee representing the CS, and Lord Lyons representing Britain and France. Despite complications in the early meetings, Benjamin's cool calm and gracious manner manage to cool the tensions, and ultimately win sovereignty for the Confederate States.
The map included on this thread shows the following:
Blue: US States
Brown: US Territories
Red: Confederate States
Light red: States and Territories that Benjamin succeeded to gain for the CS
Green: States and Territories that Benjamin failed to gain for the CS
This concludes part one. Please, tell me what you think of it in comments. Depending on what I read, I will continue it. Thank you!
