Jack the Ripper v. Teddy Roosevelt

For whatever reason, and cause the idea seemed so interesting to me, Jack the Ripper style killings start occuring in 1895 New York during TR's time as New York City Police Commissioner?

Would this be one of those strange events in American history? A black mark upon TR as he tried to clean up the New York police force? Or something utterly different?

TR's sheer badass powers allowed him to find Jack the Ripper in a few weeks, and then, he destroyed him with his spectacles...OF DOOOOOOM!

I could see Teddy trying to solve the case himself but really its harder then that. Even with spectacles of doom. JTR would taunt the police, and very easily "Boss" could turn into "Helloo Teddy."

There's actually a book about something similar to this I read once. TR assembles a crack team of behaviorists to track down a killer murdering young men working in the oldest profession. Can't remember the title.

Isn't that basically the plot of The Alienist by Caleb Carr? A serial killer in late 1890s New York. Teddy wasn't the main protagonist but he was a pretty major character, if I remember correctly

maybe i can help

under the supects of 1888 murders was US-citizen "Dr" Francis Tumblety
self-educated "Doctor" from Irish-American origin, raised from an infant in Rochester, New York.
he fled Canada after after some female patients died.
and was in time of Jack the Ripper killing in london and fled for police to France
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_the_Ripper_suspects#Francis_Tumblety

so WI Tumblety is Jack the Ripper ?
and fled France after new murders in Paris, to return back to New York in 1895 ?
There start to kill again until he is hunted down by Theodore Roosevelt

Yes, that's the basic plot, and TR was the chief of police I believe. I read The Alienist a few summers ago; an excellent, captivating book!
