I have searched quite extensively for information on this, but couldn't find anything. Could you provide me with sources where these particular intentions of Hoover are mentioned?

And this: "When Thomas Dewey entered the Republican primaries in 1948, Hoover and two of his closest aides, Clyde Tolson and Louis Nichols, secretly agreed to put the resources of the FBI at Dewey's disposal. The director believed that when Dewey became president he would name Hoover as his attorney general."

1952 depends on how Dewey handles foreign policy. If the Korean War never happens, or the war is won in 1950 because Dewey doesn't make the mistake of expanding the war into North Korea (exceeding the UN's original mandate)*, then the economy would most likely remain stable and he is re-elected. . .
I think war is generally an immediate boost to the economy. But if it lasts a while, it’s a drag on the economy, because the spending does not kick back through like infrastructure spending.

* loss of life and injury is drag on the economy! I remain anti-war, as I suspect most of us are in one way or another, especially soldiers and sailors

I agree that if Dewey keeps the war short it doesn’t hurt the economy all that much and he gets a lot of credit.

He is a shoe in for re-election in that case. Ironically the Democrats might still put up Stevenson, since most other leading candidates wouldn't want to take the fall to Dewey.
