It there were some Domican exiles in Cuba -- like Fen Gen Juan Rodriguez (in 1947) Juan Bosch (in 1949) -- who led some invasions of the Dominican Republic to overthrow the Trujillo regime. (The former was even joined by a young Fidel Castro.)
For me, these events seem to offer a few AH questions -- like, Could the Dominican Republic sees the fall of the Trujillo (later Balaguer) power base three decades earlier, in favor of the Socialist(-Populist) PRD? What would it take for the US to be OK with this around this time (maybe if the Cold War cooled off a little sooner)? Then there's "smaller" questions, like What if Fidel Castro died in the 1947 invasion?
But that's just what's striking me so far -- though I'm wondering if I'm reading too much into this, and these kinds of invasions never really had a chance in the first place. So how about it -- is there AH potential here?
(Oh and "ITPH" is "Is there potential here?" I figured this was a new category of thread, so it deserved an acronym.)
