Hey Guys,
IOTL Italy, in 1946, voted to abolish the monarchy. However, let's say Italy votes against a Republic instead and, though the issue of a monarchy stays mildly divisive, most people grow to simply deal with it.
Now, fast-forward to 2000, butterflies have led to the new King of Italy (let's call him Vittorio Emanuele I), but Vittorio Emanuele I is also made Prince Vittorio Emanuele I of Monaco as well, due to an odd turn of events which saw the male successor in Monaco die, leaving his sister as Princess of Monaco, and then passing after her death to Vittorio Emmanuele I of Italy.
So what would this do with the two countries, and - assuming Italy staying as a Kingdom doesn't cause too many European ruptures - how will this affect the countries relationships with the EU?
I'm assuming that, as this isn't the 19th Century anymore, that Monaco wouldn't be annexed into Italy, but how would the 20% of Italian speakers within Monaco react to an Italian King?
