Italian Crusader States

A Venetian fleet arrives at Acre right after Hattin and the populace hands over the city to them, rather than see it fall to Saladin. Could they have held it?

I thought this was going in an entirely different route.

I was thinking more along the lines of Muslims taking a much more substantial piece of italy, maybe all of peninsular Sicily (Naples) or even into Central Italy and the effect that would have on any reclamation efforts should anything similar to Crusader states come up following the wars.
How that would affect the Papacy, Roman relations with the west, schism, that sort of thing.

To answer your question,...I dunno.

I feel like if the Saracens had conquered Sicily and Naples (obviously taking the Island of Sicily in OTL), you could potentially see the Papal States conquering all of Mezzogiorno (keep in mind that they dominated Central Italy for centuries, so it's not out of the question). Either way I imagine there'd be even more Papal influence in Italy than in OTL and Christians would be more keen to unite against the Mohammedans, perhaps making future ventures into the Holy Lands more successful.
