Issues with Kaiserreich: Legacy of the Weltkrieg

What are your niggling (or throbbing) misgivings with the timeline or characterisations in the Kaiserreich HOI2 mod?

For me, it's the depiction of Huey Long as a fascist instead of agrarian populist. Huey Long was a lot of things - but a man who turns to political violence to get his way was not one of them. Demagoguery, blackmail, bribery, the worst sort of character assassination, and bureaucratic harassment, sure, but I don't think there's the need to exaggerate. Everything he did, he justified in public as staving off revolution and political violence. He wanted to slash the defence budget so it could be diverted to his wealth redistribution programs. The man was a borderline pacifist and about as far from a racist as you can get in 1930s Louisiana. Yet the game reduces his movement to little more than a Neo-Confederate movement by any other name.

I'm guessing that the creators of Kaiserreich, rather than trying to create a real truly valid timeline, had ideas for "what was cool" and then did their best to fit them together. So they decide "Hey, let's split the US apart in a new Civil War. Okay, what kind of major beloved figures are there in the south that could form a new CSA?" And then Huey Long is the first name they hit. There are lots of silly little things like that which make a bit more sense if you take it from the context that they were looking for a fun game (that just happens to be althistory) rather than the context that they were looking to make an althistory (that just happens to be a fun game).

And remember, there are twenty years of butterflies Huey Long in Kaisserreich 1938 is not going to be the same Huey Long as OTL 1938.

^ Totally. Just a conversation topic more than anything else.

I guess another thing I find a bit on the nose is the House of Lords just waltzing on over and replacing the Canadian upper house. I'm sure that'd work...

When I first saw the map a few years ago, it really annoyed me that Germany managed to capture almost every part of the British Empire - And Eastern Europe, and even China.

I understand it more now, as do I enjoy the whole Canada versus Union of Britain gameplay. It just niggled me that after a white peace with Germany, it manges to loose 90% of its Empire; mostly to Germany. Sure, there's a revolution, but the Royal Navy manages to escape to Canada, so why can't it prevent the smaller German navy from capturing everywhere?

Kaiserreich's plausibility pretty much end with Europe. The main conflict is the Mittelseuropa versus Internationale one, and all other stuff is just: How to make this region interesting to play.
