Israel a US state

People make sarcastic remarks about Israel being the 51st state. Suppose the Mideast were divided up into more countries. There may be an independent state for Zionists, but there's also a region for Jews who want to keep their American citizenship, and that region becomes a US state, known as Israel. Maybe this is in a timeline where Cuba, the Philippines and Liberia are also US states. (Liberia joining after 1900, maybe).

I don't think the British would take too kindly to being forced to give up their Empire by the Americans and their Mandate for Palestine only to have it made in to an American state. I don't think it's really that likely if the POD is after 1945.

Not a chance without a battalion of ASBs.

Well...the POD could be way before 1914, or before 1900 if you insist.
Bad things happen to Britain before or during WW I.
Do something about the Balfour Declaration.
More American imperialism.

No, I really can't see it happening. Besides, the whole idea doesn't make any logistical sense. Can you imagine the costs involved of having to cart people back and forth from Israel to the United States? What about Israeli representation in Congress? No. Israel's just too far away to be of any use to the US, frankly.

Cuba, maybe--although for some reason it seems to be the darling of AH. I blame Turtledove. Liberia? The Philippines? I can't see either of those happening, especially since Liberia was created as a home for American blacks yet apart from America. And when it comes down to the Philippines, they're eventually going to get nationalistic and want their country back.

i can't really see it happening but if it did, and all the other new states you mentioned, there would be nothing which would stop the US. The reason I can't see it happening is because most Israelis did not migrate from the US but from Europe and what would happen to the Palestinians.

BTW I'm part filipino so trust me when i say there's no way they would go for. Nor Liberia ( I mean they migrated from the US to Liberia) but if the Philippines did acheive statehood I would support but thats probably because I wasn't brought up in the Philippines so I don't have their way of thinking
