They call it Project Mardi Gras in 1959
I'm sure one of the admins. can move this thread.
Anyway, let's look at Timeline 1, with the 2009 school in 1959. Let's assume the transfer happens just after lunch while classes are in session. The lessons proceed as usual and the first discernible difference is that the Internet is not working. Since the school has its own internal hubs and server, the computers still work. Since the cell phones are all turned off, nobody notices.
1:00 PM: The school's IT coordinator puts in a call for support to get the Internet back up. The phone number rings but never answers.
1:30 PM: A delivery arrives at the main office. It consists of stencils and supplies to run mimeograph and ditto machines. Students from the audio-visual club unpack the boxes and ask the teacher what to do with the goods.
2:30 PM: The school busses and drivers, from 1959, arrive and stage for the dismissal bell.
2:45 PM: The final bell rings. Students begin to leave the building, some walking home, some getting in cars, some heading for busses. But those attempting to find their busses can not. Some get on, others are turned away because they are improperly dressed. Soon the drivers assemble and head to the school office.
3:00 PM: Johnny is in his car with Jane. Neither can get a cell phone signal, so they plug into the car's charger. Johnny pulls into a gas station and notices how strange it looks. He attempts to fill his car, but an attendent stops him with a glaring stare. Gas is not self service here. The attendent stares at the car, and Johnny pulls the lever that opens the fuel door. The attendant tries to insert the nozzle, but the fuel port is too small, as nozzles for unleaded fuel (reduced size) will not be used until the seventies. Johnny figures he can wait for the gas, and enters the station to by a Coke and potato chips. He is surprized to find only glass bottles. He hands the attendent a $5.00 bill and then the trouble starts.
The attendand flags down a policeman and complains this "kid" is trying to pass funny money. Johnny sees a newspaper with a 1959 date and figures this is part of some filmed act. Jane gets out of the car, dressed in blue jeans and showing a prominent orange streak in her hair. More officers arrive. Johnny is arrested for attempting to pass counterfeit money and Jane is arrested for indecent exposure. She is wearing blue jeans that zip in the front; in this community it is still illegal for women to wear such garments in public. That's why a line of women's slacks, called Pedal Pushers, zip in the back.
4:00 PM: The students and teachers alike find themselves completely homeless and without any currency (or credit) to buy food or lodging. They begin to return to the school to figure out what to do.
5:00 PM: The local authorities begin to search for and "round up" stragglers from the next century. The call the National Guard for help. They call the operation Project Mardi Gras, after the appearance of the 2009 dress and the $5 bills with purple, gold and green color.
6:00 PM: President Eisenhower orders a lock down of the community and cuts off all phone service, roads, radio stations and access.
