Isolationist Imperial Federation?

Hey Guys,

IOTL the 'Imperial Federation' was a possible plan for the future of the British Empire. But due to the Great War this was impossible from monetary problems.

So let's just skip past the detail and say a large war is averted, and so the Imperial Federation is created. Now I'm going to guess at first the IF will be very protectionist of its market, but how isolationist will it be? If a war does break out on the continent will Britain get involved? Or will it be content and too busy with Her Empire that Britain won't get involved? Also if it did get involved would this tear the IF apart? Or would it (now due to it being an official singular federal nation) not collapse but possibly just come out poorer?

Well from little I know the idea was pretty much dead by WWI anyway. The problem was trade, at the time it would have still been cheaper to produce manfactured goods and sell them to the dominions then to produce them at home.

While of course it would have been a boon to collective defense, you're going to be at peace 99% of the time.
