Islamic victory over Israel

I know this should be in the ASB section but what would be the consequences of a Arab victory during one of the Arab-Israeli conflicts ?

No Israel, arabs find something different to fight over (who runs Palestine/Arab Nationalism) No Lebanon Civil War, quite a lot of things if done at the right time.

Depends on what is meant by victory and what time period. Can see Israel fail in objectives, to a significant degree they did that in Lebannon a few years back. However if you mean them being totally militarily defeated then it depends on what period. Early and you probably get widespread bloodshed and the survivors fleeing to anywhere they can get away to. Later and much of the ME dies. [Which is probably a reason why even in 1973 the Arabs were seeking a limited victory].

I was under the impression that Egypt did win a victory in 1973 and would have scored a clear victory if Sadat had abandoned the Syrians instead of throwing out the original(successful) plan to take pressure off Damascus.

Frankly, Arab victory is an easy thing to accomplish; the only reason that they didn't push Israel back to the sea was that each time they've tried it so far their strategy and command ranged from abysmal to Rejected Three Stooges Script. A modestly well-co-ordinated and commanded effort in any of the wars would have been able to secure either limited or overwhelming victories against the Israeli military, which is, frankly, thanks to these perenially mis-calculated wars, highly over-rated.

I think the best time would be the 1967 War. That's before Israel was getting insane amounts of aid from the US, still. Also, it's basically all of Israel's neighbors vs. Israel, I don't see how you'll get many more allies than that.

A lot of Jews would flee the country (assuming they were allowed to), but I think a lot would stay, as well. Really the only long-term solution, in my mind, is real democracy and equal rights for everyone in Israel/Palestine, and I think people are eventually going to figure that out -- though, of course, they haven't in OTL, so it could take awhile. I think that given the very high Jewish population, it would be hard for the Arabs to create an analogue of the current situation.

If your replying to me I said they were seeking a limited victory. As you say the Egyptians effectively did win such a victory then over-reached themselves by trying to go further then their initial limited aims.

stevep, actually Egypt would have done even better had they waited until the SAM net had been moved east but Syrian incompetence and Egyptian loyalty to an ally, an integrity which ironically Syria did not display in 1967, prevented what might have been a clean victory with Israel calling for negotiations.
