Islam spread to China very very quickly, and while modern China has a large Muslim minority, their influence is weak and just a small apart of diverse China. My question is that what if over time, Islam didn't simply creep into China it overtook it in a wave and became the dominate religion of the country. Lets say before even 1000 AD. How does this change things. Does China support or become the Islamic rival of the Turkish regions? Do they form some kind of new variant of Islam to rival Shia and Shi'ite? What about colonization ... by abandoning the OTL Chinese path, are they able to not only fight off any European attempts but possibly branch out into Australia or Pacific regions more. What will happen to Japan? What about the wars of the 20th century? I've heard talk about if Christianity had attempted or succeeded in converting China but not Islam.
